It is often hard to understand the necessity for dental radiographs (x-rays) to be taken, especially if you’re feeling that those pearly whites are in great shape and you just can’t see any problems. But the answer is YES, you do need dental x-rays.

…And here’s why:

Dental x-rays are taken to check for problems with your teeth and gums, that may not yet be visible in the mouth.  For example, we use to detect small areas of decay between teeth that are not visible, or large areas of decay that are deep beneath the tooth’s surface, or help diagnose the presence of abscess or infections.  X-rays can reveal problems in existing dental fillings, caps and other dental restorations or aid in the detection and assessment of gum disease. X-rays can also be used as a tool to plan dental treatment that you may require, such as removing teeth, placing dental implants or even straightening teeth!

So essentially, they allow us to spot a problem before it it becomes a significant problem – trust us, you don’t want to experience the agony of a toothache!  Just imagine if you could see your general doctor, have a quick body scan and be given the all clear? Well, x-rays are our tools for doing just that! X-rays are quick, safe and pain-free!
